A host of activities on the theme of water will take place in the St Leu Quarter: medieval market, period procession, Picardy games, etc...
This Waterborne Market is a part of Amiens’ Fête dans la Ville festival, reviving the tradition of the 19th Century vegetable markets.
Once a year, as a part of the Fête dans la Ville festival, the traditional Waterborne Market is revived. The market gardeners from the hortillonnages load their barques à cornet with fruit, vegetables and flowers and row down the Somme River in traditional costume to the Place Parmentier. They tie up at the quay, set up their stalls and the market begins. With its colours, scents and customs, this market brings to life the ancestral tradition of the fine, natural produce from the hortillonnages.
