Towns, villages and architectural styles of the Eastern Somme-Reconstruction from 1918 to 1930

Friday September 12 2008

Discover this exhibition dedicated on Eastern-Somme Reconstruction.....

In partnership with the Somme General Council, the Somme Council for Architecture Planning and the Environment (CAUE) and the Santerre-Haute Somme Pays. Largely unknown, the architecture of the Reconstruction period bears witness to the intense vitality of the population which followed the dramatic period of hostilities and destruction in the Somme between 1914 and 1918. By taking a closer look at these landscapes, it is possible to identify architectural creativity that is unique to the 20th century, as well as different to the rest of the departement. This creativity was expressed despite the limited means and difficult conditions of the reconstruction period. It has endowed these communes with an invaluable departmental heritage, which the exhibition aims to present.
